Laying The Foundation

Why did God create man? Does He have a plan or did He just create us knowing that we would mess up and that He would have to bail us out, end of story? Unfortunately, Christians have watered down God’s plan and reduced it to something of the following:

Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and get saved or you will go to hell.

Is this true? What does this sort of statement say about God and His plan? We need to stop and ask some very serious and difficult questions. Difficult, not because you need a theological degree to answer them, but in asking them, you will be questioning what you really believe and what that says about our Creator. This can be unnerving. You may find that the foundations you have built your faith on are shaken. Does that thought frighten you? But …… could it be that if your foundation is bad, God needs to shake it up in order to lay a new and better foundation? Have you ever told the Lord that you want to trust Him with ALL your life? Does that include your beliefs or just what you think you need to give up? Are you ready to take a look at God’s plan? I sure hope so. It’s exciting!!

So, what is God’s plan for man? Here it is:

Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness ; Gen 1:26 NASU

But we all , with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.2 Cor 3:18 NASU

For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. Romans 8:29 NIV

And just as we have borne the image of the earthly man, so shall we bear the image of the heavenly man. 1 Corinthians 15:49 NIV( He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. Colossians 1:15 )

But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit. 2 Corinthians 3:18

So then ye are no longer strangers and foreigners, but ye are fellow-citizens of the saints, and of the household of God, being built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the corner-stone, in whom all [the] building fitted together increases to a holy temple in the Lord;  in whom ye also are built together for a habitation of God in [the] Spirit.Ephesians 2:20-22 (Darby)

WOW!!! That’s quite a purpose. To be transformed, conformed, and bear, the same image and likeness as our Savior and Creator. Do you honestly believe God can accomplish this? In you? How about in ALL mankind? Hang with me. I told you there would be some tough questions.

When God saw that all He had made was "very good" (Gen 1:31) this was just the beginning, not the completion. Salvation is not the main purpose/goal of God for mankind; it is one step in His process of accomplishing this purpose. This series will take a look at the journey God has set before us -- to create us in His image.
