The Problem

The Problem

The scriptures seem to contradict itself. On the one hand it says we are a new creation and can’t sin:

What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase? May it never be! How shall we who died to sin still live in it? Rom 6:1-3 NASU

Therefore, if any one is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, behold, the new has come. 2 Cor 5:17-18 RSV

No one who is born of God practices sin, because His seed abides in him; and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. 1 John 3:9 NASU

Yet scriptures are also clear that we can sin:

Be angry and yet do not sin; Eph 4:26 NASU

Those who continue in sin, rebuke in the presence of all, so that the rest also will be fearful of sinning.  Tim 5:20 NASU

Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us… Heb 12:1 NASU

So, either the scriptures actually contradict itself, or, we are not correctly understanding what the Lord is communicating. Which do you choose to believe?
